The Advantage™ Flexible Personalized Patient Compression Paddle – Model 600 provides improved imaging and superior patient comfort. It is effective for digital and analog mammography machines. Makes possible more effective imaging of large breasts in a single exposure.

The paddle flexes at a point 2CM away from the chest wall. The flexing portion provides additional compression of anterior breast tissue to the nipple while avoiding additional stress on tissue at or near the chest wall.

The non-flexed region of the paddle closest to the chest wall secures compressed tissue to minimize displacement of breast tissue into the chest wall. The result is a superior mammogram image with minimal pain and discomfort.

Features

  • Can be converted to and from a flat compression paddle and a breast conforming tilt paddle with the turn of one knob.
  • Tilt angle can be adjusted from flat to 3.5 cm tilt at any time, even during compression.
  • The first 2 cm of the paddle from the chest wall always remains flat for normal compression to secure maximum close to chest wall tissue in the x-ray field. This prevents the tilt portion of the paddle from forcing breast tissue back into the chest wall.
  • The chest wall side of the paddle remains vertical at all tilt angles ensuring the front side of the paddle does not tilt into and block any of the x-ray field.
  • The gentle transition from flat to tilted surface provides for maximum patient comfort by automatically adjusting the tilt angle to each patients breast shape and desity.

  • Why does a mammogram hurt?
    With a standard flat paddle, there is a "threshold limit" to compression without stretching or tearing of tissue at the chest wall. The new Advantage™ Paddle flexes to allow for effective anterior breast tissue compression without stretching or tearing of tissue near the chest wall. To obtain successful anterior breast tissue compression the paddle must be brought lower, which exceeds the threshold limit. This stretching and tearing of tissue is a major contributor to the pain of mammography. If anterior breast tissue is not effectively compressed, an inferior mammography image will be obtained.
